EWS & Co. AS offers the complete line of NL Technologies®
charging systems as well as several custom made chargers to
suit every customer's needs. Chargers come in sizes from an
ultra-portable clip-style charger to a wall mounted rack of
40 cap lamp chargers.
Chargers come in two styles; regular duration battery chargers and extended duration battery chargers. Regular duration batteries are the 8 and 10 hour packs. Extended duration batteries are the, deeper, 12 hour battery packs. The charging circuitry is different for the two different styles so it is extremely important that the battery is purchased with the correct charging system. In an effort to alleviate the confusion that may arise, the regular chargers have a black ABS housing while the extended chargers have a grey ABS housing. The clip charger is an important exception to this rule, it can recharge all styles of battery, and is the only charger that recharges the 6 hour battery pack Rack style chargers come in two sizes regular and narrow width. The regular size charging rack has space for up to 40 charging stations in panels of 10 each, while the narrow rack has space for up to 20 charging stations in panels of 5 each. Each style of rack charger can come with one to four panels depending on customer need at the time of purchase. Add-on panels can be ordered seperately up to the full capacity of the rack. Portable chargers are available in single, dual, 4-unit (extended duration batteries only) and 5-unit (regular duration batteries only). Single unit chargers come in 3 styles. The previously mentioned clip charger, the 12V (car adapter style) charger (regular duration batteries only) and the table-top single unit charger. |

Northern Light® chargers use a 4-Stage advanced circuitry charging
system. Each charger works individually, any variation in charging time
is taken care of at the unit level, and any failure in either battery
pack or charging unit does not affect the system as a whole.
The Charging Circuitry is designed to give the battery an optimal charge. A 4-stage cycle guarantees that the battery is recharged to its maximum level by conforming to the battery's ability to take a charge. The 4 Stages are: STAGE 1: High Rate Charging A constant current is supplied to the battery pack until pack temperature rises. This rapid increase in temperature indicates the pack's reduced ability to accept charge. STAGE 2: Cool Down The curent is then shut off and the charger LED will come on. The battery is then allowed to cool down. STAGE 3: Top-Up After cooling, this stage employs a pulse width modulated charging until the pack temperature rises again. This charges the battery the last 5-10% which most other chargers neglect. STAGE 4: Trickle Charge After the Top-Up stage, the charger switches to Trickle mode. A small trickle current is supplied to keep it 100% charged. Note: the pack may remain indefinitely in the charger with no adverse effects on the pack. |
